“Education begins the moment we see children as innately wise and capable beings. Only then can we play along in their world”.

– Vince Gowmon

Work Period

Our classes are equipped with a variety of Montessori equipment enabling the children to develop to their fullest potential at their own pace and enabling them to be more independent and helping them to develop a sense of responsibility and self-worth, as well as caring for others, fully preparing them for their future.

Small Classes

We offer a small classroom environment as this offers children the opportunity to have a one-on-one presentation of the classroom materials and activities.

School Hours

Our operating hours are 06:30 am to 17:00 pm. We are open throughout the year, only closing for 1 week in June/July, Public Holidays and December break.

About Us

Our classes are vertically grouped; children of different ages and abilities (ranging from 6 months to 6 years) share the same dynamic interactive environment. We endeavour to have and/or take in approximately 10 children per class, in order for each child to receive the individual attention required.

Montessori Work Cycle

The Montessori curriculum was carefully designed to catch the interest of the child and aid him to develop; through identifying, classifying and researching through the use of each topic of learning. The areas of practical life, language, math, geometry, botany, zoology, geography, and history are all represented in the classroom, with materials that lead the child to abstraction of the fundamental concepts in each area. .

MONTESSORI PHILOSOPHY

“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences” – Dr Maria Montessori.

Dr Maria Montessori believed that children learnt through interaction with their environment. Having specially designed activities and learning materials the whole child, mind, body and spirit, was present in the lesson

PRACTICAL LIFE

This is where the child learns how to care for themselves as well as the environment. We focus on care of self, care of others and care of the environment. Activities stimulate the development of concentration, hand-eye coordination, working independently, strengthening the wrist and finger muscles and visual tracking.

SENSORIAL

In this area the child’s senses are further stimulated using a variety of different equipment. Sensorial materials have been developed to stimulate intellectual development, to assist the child in making judgements and comparisons. Children are taught to isolate a single sense and use it to its full potential. The Montessori methodology develops eight senses: tactile, auditory, visual, taste, smell, weight discrimination, temperature discrimination and spatial awareness.

LANGUAGE

Here the children are given the opportunity to extend their vocabulary, learn how to construct words with the use of letters and later begin to read. Language is not only about knowing the alphabet, it is also about conversational skills and creative thinking.

MATHEMATICS

This is the manipulation of carefully graded equipment that gives the child a concrete and abstract understanding of number concepts. Children learn through apparatus that is concrete and these are later adapted into abstract lessons to assist in developing the foundation of mathematics.

CULTURAL

The child is exposed to a variety of study fields, such as: Botany, Zoology, Geography, Science, History, Art and Music.

Testimonials

The school and team have been nothing short of incredible with our children and we hope to find a suitable replacement “home” at least close to the standard of care, education, consideration and love you have afforded them. We can safely say our kids have been as much at home in your school as they have been with us over the years and for that we are eternally grateful.

I want to start off by thanking you for being part of our lives for the past 4 years. Cherry Tree has really become like family. You have helped my daughter so much, under your guidance and teachings she’s learnt to speak, socialize, express herself and find her little voice, she’s developed a love for mathematics and reading. She’s also such a fan of water lol. I want to thank you again for all that you have done and may you continue doing this beautiful work with others. Who knows we might be back again lol.
